ShotSense Golf is the first and only golf GPS app that proactively provides players with optimal hole and shot strategies, just like a caddie. Most other apps on the market offer only Basic Mode, which is useful for visualizations and post-round data tracking but provides limited assistance during play. In contrast, ShotSense Golf's Practice mode helps golfers of all skill levels prepare for courses they may not be familiar with, making it a comprehensive tool both on and off the course.

Our early adopter power users are competitive golfers who frequently play on various courses, including those they are unfamiliar with. Absolutely. Even if you have a strong understanding of the optimal strategy for each hole at your home course, ShotSense Golf can enhance your game in several ways: 1) Validate your strategies by comparing them with the app to ensure your tee shots are optimal; 2) Use Practice mode to build intuition for difficult pins, especially on Par 3s, which are often crucial in tournaments; 3) Leverage all the on-course features in Basic Mode, such as the scorecard and distance measurements, and then switch to ShotSense mode to get Plays Like distances and optimal strategies for any shot to any pin. Try it for a few rounds and observe the statistical improvements in your game.

Like most golf GPS apps, ShotSense Golf uses some of your phone’s battery due to constant GPS refreshing which happens in both the foreground and background (if you switch to another app or are on the lock screen). We recommend starting a round with a fully charged battery.

The main factor influencing calculation time is the number of shots required to reach the hole. For instance, calculating for a Par 5 will generally take longer than for a Par 3. Additionally, the presence of hazards, trees, the length and width of the hole, and other variables can all affect the number of calculations needed and the overall calculation time.

No, wind is not included. Wind is challenging to assess on a hole-by-hole basis, and most apps today pull wind data at the zip code level, which is not precise for individual holes—especially those with trees, variable elevation, etc.

There could be a few reasons for this message. We recommend reviewing the troubleshooting videos in the Learn section. The most common reasons include: 1) You are more than 3 shots away from the green; 2) You are in a dense patch of trees, or there is a tree immediately in front of you; 3) There is no viable landing zone for your clubs (e.g., the ball can only land in water, etc.).

This can happen occasionally, and it's always a good idea to double-check the recommendation with your intuition. The primary cause for an incorrect strategy is often related to inaccurate polygons. Sometimes, the app might detect trees where there shouldn't be any (causing the strategy to navigate around them), or it might miss trees that are present (leading to a strategy that attempts a risky shortcut). Use the Course Editor to adjust these polygons as needed.

For woods, we recommend having both total and carry distances so the decision engine can use the total distance. For irons, if you'd prefer the strategy to factor in only carry distance—common among lower-handicap golfers—you can set the carry and total distances to be equal.

Without knowing the exact pin location, you won't get the most accurate strategy. However, you can still find value by moving the pin to the area of the green where you estimate it to be, or by leaving it in the middle of the green. The decision engine will then aim for the safest part of the green based on your dispersion.

Par 5s are challenging due to the number of calculations the decision engine must complete in a reasonable amount of time. We are continually working on improving the Par 5 routing logic, but sometimes the routes may be inaccurate. Additionally, we currently present only the best option per club, so if both a Driver and 3-Wood can reach the green with a good score, the app may not show a Driver-4I-LW option, even if it’s a viable alternative to 3W-3W-LW.

Elevation data is currently only available for U.S. courses. We are working to add worldwide elevation data in the coming months.
